After more than 10 years of planning, a Maori bid to manage fish stocks in Akaroa Harbour will be heard by a Maori Land Court tribunal next week.
The five-day hearing will consider an application by the Onuku, Wairewa and Koukourarata runaka for a "taiapure", or customary fisheries management, for the harbour.
The proposal runs counter to a widely supported bid for a 530ha marine reserve at the southeastern head of the harbour.
