A Tauranga bank was robbed by a man allegedly carrying a knife.
Police are still seeking witnesses to the robbery of the 11th Ave branch of ANZ Bank at 10.40am on Wednesday.
Staff placed a sign on the door of the bank advising customers of the robbery and asking them to use the Tauranga CBD branch.
Area prevention manager acting Inspector Phil Gillbanks said a man allegedly entered the bank armed with a knife and jumped the bank counter before taking a significant amount of cash.
There were a number of staff and customers in the bank at the time.
Gillbanks said the man fled from the scene on foot.
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anybody acting suspiciously in the 11th Ave/Waihi Rd and Christopher St area between 10am and 1pm on Wednesday.
