A Rotorua man who allegedly stole a television crew's car from outside the Rotorua Courthouse this morning was arrested when he went back to court .

The man and a woman, who is yet to be found, allegedly stole the Newshub vehicle at 10am today from outside the courthouse in Rotorua's central city.

Senior Sergeant Mike Membery of the Bay of Plenty Police District Command Centre said police were immediately notified.

Mr Membery said the man was arrested within an hour when he returned to the courthouse.


A Ministry of Justice spokeswoman said the man was due to appear in court at 11.45am on unrelated charges.

Meanwhile, Mr Membery said the car contained expensive camera equipment and police were still trying to find it. The woman is yet to be found.

The car is a Holden Commodore stationwagon registration GCZ846 with the words Newshub on the side.
