A pedestrian is in a stable condition after being hit by a ute on Harris St in Huntly this morning.

The driver of the ute struck a man and then a power pole at 11am near the railway crossing, according to the fire service.

A St John duty centre manager confirmed one person had been transported to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.

The man was this afternoon stable in a ward at a Waikato Hospital, a Waikato District Health Board spokeswoman confirmed.

Police said the power pole had been knocked down and broken wires were hanging over the ute.

Harris St between Parry St and Sample St was closed and St John, Police and two appliances from the Huntly Fire Service attended the scene.

The serious crash unit was investigating and police were speaking with the driver.
