A Christchurch motorcyclist died while on a group ride on the South Island's West Coast yesterday.

The police serious crash unit is today still investigating the crash on Arnold Valley Rd, Moana, which happened about 3.20pm yesterday.

A woman motorcyclist was travelling north on Arnold Valley Rd with a group of eight motorcycles when she collided with a southbound car.

She died at the scene.


The driver of the car was not seriously injured.

Another female rider from the group lost control of their bike and also crashed when they hit debris from the first crash.

She was flown to Greymouth Hospital with a broken leg.

Both riders involved were from Christchurch.

The road was closed for seven hours after the crashes.

The name of the deceased will be released once next of kin have been notified, police said this morning.
