A 12-year-old boy who suffered a critical chest wound at a property in Pongakawa, near Te Puke yesterday afternoon, has died.
Police said a post-mortem examination would be carried out later today to establish the cause of death.
An investigation was continuing to confirm the circumstances surrounding the death.

Police were called to the address about 4pm yesterday where they found the injured boy.
They helped family members give CPR until ambulance staff arrived and took over, police said yesterday.
The boy was flown to Waikato Hospital in a life-threatening condition but died in the early hours of this morning.
Police said the boy would be named tomorrow.
