The woman killed in a crash near Galatea has been named by police.
Holly Davis, 19, from Galatea, was the only occupant in the car, which crashed on Troutbeck Rd, around 15km northeast of Murupara.
The crash was on Saturday around 6pm. Miss Davis died at the scene.
Rotorua police Sergeant Tony Bennett said the crash involved a single motor vehicle which left the road and rolled. Miss Davis was the only occupant.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
Mr Bennett said initial evidence suggested the driver was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Miss Davis was a former student at Rotorua Girls' High School.
Recently retired principal Annette Joyce said she was saddened to hear of Miss Davis' death.
"She was a lovely student, very happy and she had a lovely circle of friends," Mrs Joyce said.
"She was a young woman who came through the school and when she left appeared to have everything going for her. It's a terrible tragedy. My thoughts go out to her family and friends."
