A customer chased a gun-toting robber after he walked in on his local North Shore dairy being held up yesterday afternoon.
Coronation Superette owner Mahendra Jeram said he owed much to the unnamed local man who followed the agitated gunman in his car to track him until police could take over.
Unfortunately the robber, who had stolen more than $1000 in cash, managed to give the customer the slip before police arrived.
Police with tracker dogs mounted a hunt throughout Glenfield but were unsuccessful.
Jeram said the masked man walked into his shop shortly after 4.30pm and pointed a long-barrelled shotgun at his niece.
He then waved the gun at another shop assistant.
"They were scared and gave the money to him," he said. "Their lives are more important than the money."
The gunman was described as skinny and young and he shivered throughout the ordeal.
