Heavy rain and gales are expected to pound Northland for the next three days, MetService is warning.
A low is deepening in the north Tasman Sea and moving southwards bringing northeasterly gales and rain.
The grim weather should drift only slowly southwards over Northland and was not expected to clear the area until the early hours of Tuesday, MetService said today.
Heavy rain should settle mostly about the eastern hills, where 150 to 200mm was expected, but Northland residents should brace for downpours as well.
The amount of rain was likely to produce rapidly rising rivers and streams, also slips, and hazardous driving conditions.
