North Shore police are at the scene of a bank robbery in Birkenhead after a man passed a "threatening note" to a teller.
They were called to the BNZ at about 12:10pm.
Inspector Jacqueline Whittaker said there are no reports anyone has been hurt.
Police spokesman Kevin Loughlin said the staff member handed over cash to the man who then ran into Birkenhead Ave.
He said police describe the man is a Pakeha, aged in his twenties or thirties and of a medium build. He said the man is about 180cm tall and was wearing a black beanie and sunglasses. He said also wearing a black suit jacket, and a black top.
Mr Loughlin said anyone with information should call North Shore police on 488 6200.
