KEY POINTS:
A man had his ear partially severed after being attacked with a pool cue in Tauranga yesterday - and then left hospital without being treated.
Acting Sergeant Matt Elliott said the victim was beaten at his home when a man known to him arrived and beat him about the head with the pool cue.
"He was taken to Tauranga Hospital and we believe his ear was partially severed," Mr Elliott said.
"But he left the hospital straight afterwards. Hospital staff said he needed to be treated but he decided to go.
"So we have located the offender but we don't know where the victim is."
Charges have yet to be laid, Mr Elliott said.
