A dog has been shot in a violent home invasion in the Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill early this morning.
Police said the six occupants of the Duke Street house were playing cards when five armed and disguised men burst in about 1am.
A dog, a collie, was shot but is expected to survive and one of the male victims was hospitalised after being assaulted with the butt of a rifle.
Detective Sergeant Rick Veacock said the offenders made off with thousands of dollars in cash, jewellery and a black 2003 Toyota Camry saloon, registration number FFB616.
"Obviously we would like to hear from anyone with information about who the offenders might be or where the stolen property, particularly the car, is," Mr Veacock said.
