A candlelight vigil will be held for the 4-year-old girl who died in unexplained circumstances.
Maggie Watson was found dead inside the Onehunga home she lived in with her mother, Evelyn Sen, early on Friday morning.
Ms Sen is understood to have called police at 4am and officers arrived at the Moana Ave home to find Maggie dead.
Ms Sen was taken away for treatment for "superficial injuries" and Auckland city police Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin said she remained in the care of Auckland District Health Board.
"The investigation into her daughter's death is ongoing but, for operational and privacy reasons, police are unable to be specific about the number and names of witnesses spoken to at this stage," he said.
Initial post-mortem examination results failed to shed light on the death, and further test results were due to be released today.
Family friend and neighbour Des Gilmore was liaising with Ms Sen's father in her native Malaysia to organise the funeral for Maggie, who was born in New Zealand.
Her father is British and is believed to live in Britain.
Mr Gilmore said a candle-light vigil would be held at the Moana Ave property at 7pm today to pay tribute to the girl.
He also hoped to raise money for her funeral costs, as Ms Sen's father could not afford to fly to New Zealand and he and his wife were taking on most of the financial responsibility.
