It was the year of Kim Dotcom and the America's Cup. For some, such as teenage pop queen Lorde and thousands of gay couples who won the right to marry, 2013 was a breakthrough year to remember. For others, including embattled Auckland mayor Len Brown and dumped Labour leader David Shearer, the last 12 months probably can't fade quickly enough. Herald photographers were there to capture the highs and lows.
