This week, home businesses around New Zealand celebrated the inaugural National Home Business Week.
"It's great to see home businesses becoming so much more recognised as genuine, viable and professional operations," says Heather Douglas, managing director of Home Business New Zealand.
"We're pleased to see others taking home-based operators as seriously as they take themselves."
According to Home Business New Zealand, there are more than 200,000 home businesses throughout the country. They represent a growing sector of the economy, the trend to working from home being fuelled by factors such as cost-effective availability of technology and ready access to information via the internet, demand for lifestyle, corporate downsizing, traffic problems, tax advantages and, of course, the New Zealand entrepreneurial spirit.
In the past 18 months, the home business community throughout the country has become more cohesive, primarily through a variety of initiatives driven by Home Business New Zealand and focused on its web portal for home-based businesses.
