Don't know what to do with yourself this weekend? We've handpicked the top five things to do around Auckland.
1. Elephant in the room
You can keep your kittens and your puppies, because too-cute baby elephant has Anjalee finally arrived in her new home. She's making gentle test outings with big boss Burma, but head to the zoo to test your knowledge on the 'All About Elephants' trail, see the super exhibition of photos in the Elephant House (called Elephant Memories, of course) plus bouncy castles, colouring-in competitions and more.
Details: Until Sunday July 19, 9.30am - 5pm. Auckland Zoo.
2. Poetry number
Everyone's favourite black-jeaned poet, Sam Hunt, teams up with bandsman David Kilgour (with band the Heavy 8s) at the Kings Arms to celebrate their recent collaborative album The 9th.
Details: Saturday, 8pm, The Kings Arms.
3. Writing by the stars
Maori writers from Te Ha ki Tamaki honour Matariki in a smorgasbord of poetry, prose and an open-mic session. There's a writing workshop, audio-visual displays and the day climaxes with site-specific readings around Auckland's streets and landmarks.
Details: Saturday, 9.15am - 3.30pm. Auckland City Library.
4. Prince on Ice
Someday her prince will come gliding along the ice, as Sleeping Beauty on Ice skates on the Civic Theatre stage. The Imperial Ice Stars - eighteen of the world's top skaters - reinterpret the fairytale set to the magnificent music of Tchaikovsky in exhilarating choreography and staging. Then head up to Aotea Square to practice your own moves at the glittering ice rink (and bigger-than-ever ice slide).
Details: Sleeping Beauty until Sunday, The Civic.
Aotea Square Ice rink, until Sunday July 19.
5. Paper tiger
David Williamson's musical on the life of Rupert Murdoch has been taking the world by storm. Imagine the world's most powerful media magnate in tap-dancing, disco and tango. Unmissable, and selling out fast.
Details: Until Sunday July 19. Q Theatre.
