1. Flick it on
The winter movie-gorging of the New Zealand International Film Festival is not just for the grownups. There are some great kid-pleasers too: this weekend check out Animation for Kids, (today, Newmarket Rialto, 11.30am) and Song of the Sea, an enthralling reinterpretation of Irish folktales (tomorrow, the Civic, 11am). The amazing immersive journey through Africa's natural world, Enchanted Kingdom 3D has sold out for Sunday, selling fast for today (1pm, Event Cinema, Queen St). 2. Loos yourself
It's not every weekend you can go on a Bog Standard tour of the city's Auckland Heritage loos. The lid is being lifted on four of city blocks, with a public open day (you can also toss around ideas for their stylish re-use with Auckland Council's property team). Loo-cales include Custom St West (outside Galleria), Sturdee St and Market Place corner, Wellesley St East, (near Auckland Art Gallery and Sandringham Reserve.

3. Disney double up
To publicise the launch of Sky Movies Disney, Aotea Square is transformed into a magical kingdom with laser lights, music, water projections and visual effects to bring some of Disney's most memorable movies to life ( 12 minute shows every half hour). Over at Vector Arena, the Disney On Ice team have skated into town with their Dare To Dream carnival of princes and princesses, evil witches and the glass slipper, expect to see plenty of your favourite Disney moments and characters on the ice this weekend.

4. Armed and dangerous
After the week we've had challenging women, the Defence Force's show Force Equip - Resilience in Women is perfectly timed. With hands on workshops on taking challenges head on, handling stress pushing through tough times while bringing out the best in yourself this is a terrific resource for resilience and finding the positive.

5. Java Jive
The Waterview Coffee Project, a community gathering spot in a container presents their first free mini gig staring Sam Allen. Try Kokako's great coffee, extracted in some very interesting ways, live music and hot food. Then wander along to check out the massive tunnel and roadworks that prompted this community action.
