The bid to build a Big Onion on the Bombay Hills as a tourist attraction has received a setback, with the Franklin District Council declining to donate $1 million this year. But the chairman of the Big Onion Project Society, Lex Wilcox, says the bid will continue. One possibility was scaling down the size of the 18m by 13m onion to cut the cost. Franklin growers produce about 85 per cent of onion exports, earning $110 million.
