A number of architectural gems, including a bus exchange, garden room and wellness retreat, are on track to win an industry accolade this year.
Forty-seven projects have been short-listed for the 2016 New Zealand Architecture Awards that will be assessed by a judging panel next month.
The final winner will be announced at an event in Wellington on November 11.
Jury convenor Jasper van der Lingen said the jury would be looking forward to seeing projects that enhanced the public realm, such as the war memorial park in Wellington and the Light Path cycleway in Auckland.
He said the short-list showed there was high-quality work being produced across the spectrum.
"It's heartening, too, that a quarter of the projects on the shortlist are from the Canterbury region, which suggests that six years on from the earthquake Christchurch is reviving its strong architectural tradition.
