An award-winning drama based on the Treaty of Waitangi, which was bumped in favour of America's Cup racing last Waitangi Day, is finally being given primetime treatment by TVNZ.
Nga Tohu: Signatures was to screen at 4.30 pm last Waitangi Day but lost its slot in favour of continuing live coverage of the Louis Vuitton final.
The drama, which cleaned up at last year's TV Guide Television Awards, screens on TV One at 8.40 tonight.
Nancy Brunning and George Henare won best actress and best actor awards, Ross Duncan was named best supporting actor and director Andrew Bancroft won the award for best director, drama.
Nga Tohu was financed by the Legal Services Board and has been used as an educational video in schools around the country.
It tells the story of a fictional New Zealand town dealing with the consequences of a treaty claim and the history of the dispute.
The story alternates between a convincing recreation of the past misunderstandings which brought about the claim, and the present resolution of them.
Nga Tohu: Signatures is the first video of a three-part series, called Journeys: Nga Tapuae.
