House for rent. Very cheap. May mean long commute to work.
Quarterly results from a Massey University real estate survey show the cheapest area in which to rent is the Mackenzie Basin, inland from Oamaru in the South Island, where the average rent is $90 a week.
The most expensive places are the North Shore and Wellington at $260, and Auckland City $250.
The average weekly rental in New Zealand is $190, although some larger centres - Hamilton $185, Rotorua $160, Palmerston North $170, Christchurch $180, Dunedin $160 - were below that.
The Auckland region has the most expensive rents, including Waitakere at $235, Manukau $237 and Papakura $230.
The survey found renting and buying markets are highly seasonal. January and June are not good times for buying, selling or renting, while the busiest time is February and March.
Cheap rent, but it could be a long drive
