Kiwi Brendon Hartley earned his second point in Formula 1 at the German Grand Prix on Monday while Lewis Hamilton took advantage of Sebastian Vettel error to win the race and take the lead of the championship.
Hartley produced a sound drive in his Toro Rosso and took advantage of some late race rain and a safety car intervention. He briefly held ninth spot but was passed by a car on fresher tyres in the closing laps while he managed to hold off a charging Kevin Magnussen to secure his second points finish of the season.
Ferrari's Vettel had control of the race for the most part but made an uncharacteristic error on lap 52 when he locked up and ran off the track and out of the Grand Prix from the lead.
The brought out a safety car with light rain throwing team strategies into chaos. Some opted for wet or intermediate tyres while others braved the conditions on slicks.
