Lorde is now "famous" enough to drop the word music from her Twitter handle.
The singer announced a change of title on her verified account from @LordeMusic to @lorde at the weekend.
She has the most Kiwi followers of anyone on the social media site, and frequently uses the forum to update people on her latest news.
The first inkling fans had of the imminent change was a tweet announcing "something a little bit cool".
She followed up with an explanation, adding her status had grown enough to drop the word music for a "name-only status".
It was a step taken by famous female musicians like Beyonce and Rihanna before her.
Lorde asked her 408 million followers to weigh in on the new handle - asking if they felt @Lorde or @lorde would be better.
The responses came thick and fast, with a lower case "l" winning the informal vote.
The Yellow Flicker Beat songstress recently jetted back from the U.S.A, where she was working on new music, to attend the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.
On the trip she picked up two Tuis for Single of the Year as well as the People's Choice Award.
