An Australian couple in their sixties who have never owned a home before have become real estate moguls overnight after being awarded three luxury properties worth A$3.4 million ($3.7m).
Marie and Joe Watson, who work as relief rental managers, were given a two-bedroom penthouse in Potts Point, Sydney, a three-bedroom home in Queensland's holiday hotspot Noosa and a one-bedroom unit in Port Melbourne.
The homes had been offered through a draw to raise money for veteran's charity RSL Art Union, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Mrs Watson, who frequently enters the charity's competitions, had spent A$100 ($110) on 20 tickets at A$5 each ($5.55).
"It still hasn't sunk in yet," Mrs Watson said. "Nothing like this has ever happened to us before and it's changed our life. We didn't even own a home."
The couple, who have been largely nomadic for the past 13 years, said they were still deciding which property to stay at.
"Each one is amazing. It's not an easy decision," Mrs Watson said. "We we're thinking maybe we'd use the Noosa one as a base and the Sydney one would be like our super fund. But who knows?"
The A$3.4 million ($3.7m) property giveaway also came with luxury furniture and an additional A$135,000 ($149,710) worth of gold bullion.
RSL Art Union general manager Tracey Bishop said the charity received more than 350,000 orders for tickets before the draw closed November 7.
The charity's next draw will be for a block of five apartments in the Gold Coast suburb of Palm Beach - worth a staggering A$4.1m ($4.5m).
