An 11-tonne steel staircase has been lifted into place at Fonterra's new world headquarters being built to the west of Auckland's CBD.
Fletcher Construction has released a video of last month's big lift, saying the move was a big step forward on the job where the main structure of the building has been completed.
"An architectural milestone was reached on the Fonterra head office project in March with the installation of the first of five atrium stairs to be craned and fixed into position. The 11-tonne steel stair was tilted to near vertical before it was lowered through the roof opening and down with as little as 150mm clearance past six floors to ground level. After careful planning the entire lift took less than two hours to complete," a statement released with the video said.
The HQ is being built on the corner of Fanshawe St and Halsey St, opposite Vodafone's headquarters, alongside Microsoft in the Viaduct Harbour.

Fonterra will leave its Princes St headquarters and lease 16,000sq m of floorspace in the new seven-storey building which Fletcher Construction is building. More than 1000 Fonterra staff will eventually work in the building, a block back from the waterfront.
