Ric Stevens is a Multimedia Journalist specialising in Open Justice reporting at Hawke's Bay Today.
Ric Stevens has been a journalist for more than 40 years, and held senior positions at several daily newspapers before joining NZME’s Open Justice team in 2022. He is based in Hawke’s Bay. Ric’s varied career includes stints in the parliamentary press gallery and in Christchurch during the earthquakes of 2010-2011. His reporting on crime and justice is informed by four years of front-line experience in the criminal justice system as a probation officer. He has an honours degree in History and a Master of Business Administration, both from the University of Canterbury. Ric was the researcher, writer and presenter of the New Zealand Herald’s four-part podcast Chasing Ghosts: Murder at the Racecourse Hotel, which examined the cold-case murder of Donald Fraser, who was shot dead in his Christchurch pub in 1933.
