The recent rainfall in Auckland has been a welcome relief for some areas but has done little to decrease the risk of fire across the region.
The current restricted fire season will remain in place until further notice, meaning all open fires still require a valid fire permit.
"Once the region receives significant prolonged rain, we will lift the restriction to an open fire season," says Principal Rural Fire Officer Bryan Cartelle.
He urges people to remain diligent and not become complacent, "even if it may look safe to light a fire.
"It may look safe to light a fire but it is important you check it's all right before you light one and remember to get a permit first."
