Huntly police are still looking for a man who shot at two others in Ngaruawahia on Sunday.
The incident sparked an armed offenders squad alert in the town, but the man was gone when police arrived.
A Morrinsville house was later searched but the man was not found. The car allegedly used to get away from Ngaruawahia was discovered in Huntly this week.
Huntly Detective Constable Gavin Hall said although the suspect was believed to be in a calm state of mind, he still might have possession of the shotgun.
He said he had spoken to the man's friends and relatives and hoped they would encourage the man to turn himself in.
The men who were shot at have been "spoken to about their safety," Detective Constable Hall said.
Police are also still looking for a man who robbed a Waikokowai man at machete-point on Monday night.
The man, who only wanted to be known as Michael, was robbed of his supply of prescription morphine in his home, just west of Huntly.
It was the second time in four years he had been the target of home invasion.
