An initiative to boost numbers of Australian male primary school teachers has foundered because the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission has ruled it discriminates against women.
Sydney's Catholic Education Office planned to offer men-only teaching scholarships to address a lack of male teachers but the commission has refused to grant an exemption from anti-discrimination laws.
