A GREYTOWN woman fundraising for stem cell treatment to cure her multiple sclerosis is due to receive treatment in February.
Nikki Regnault and her family have been fundraising for almost a year to reach their target of $200,000, the amount needed to finance Mrs Regnault's treatment in Singapore.
Mrs Regnault, a mother-of-three, has been quietly battling multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease that causes chronic fatigue and periodic attacks, for about 19 years.
In November last year, the family announced their plan to seek treatment overseas, launched a Givealittle campaign, and began organising a series of events around the country.
Their last fundraiser, which husband Wayne Regnault said is almost booked out, will be a fun golf tournament at the Carterton Golf Course on November 20.
Almost 100 people have booked to attend the afternoon, which will feature spot prizes, beers and an auction.
The family has raised most of the $200,000 that was initially sought, although currency changes have brought the total required closer to $220,000, Mr Regnault said.
The response from the community had been awesome, Mr Regnault said.
"We knew we lived in an awesome area and we knew that our families have been good folks in the community, so we were hopeful that we would have good support and it has been delivered in spades."
From December, the family plans to take a break to focus on preparing the children for the 10-12 weeks Mrs Regnault will be spending in Singapore for treatment, Mr Regnault said.
"We always said that come the end of November we had to put a line through the events and spend December and January preparing the kids."
"We just need to get on and do it."
Mr Regnault said his wife was doing well, if a little tired as the end of the year approached.
"She's going well - she's getting nervous but that's a good thing."
