South Africa's thumping 46-6 win over Samoa has been marred by a pitch invader late in the contest.
In the final minutes of the clash, a Springbok fan made his way onto the pitch, joining in at the ruck and looking to tackle a Samoan player before being thrown aside by Springbok number eight Duane Vermeulen.
The moment evoked memories of Pieter van Zyl, a South African fan who assaulted referee David McHugh in 2002 in an All Blacks v South Africa clash.
Richie McCaw and AJ Venter tackled the drunk van Zyl to the ground, before he was dragged away by security. McHugh was left with a dislocated shoulder and had to be carried off on a stretcher, while van Zyl was sentenced to three months in jail and banned for life from attending all rugby matches in South Africa.
