Gas levels have fallen at Pike River coal mine but the receivers say it is still too dangerous for stabilisation work to begin.
Stabilisation was to have begun this week, enabling rescuers to eventually tunnel past a rockfall to where 29 workers were killed in explosions in November.
There are concerns over gas levels and overall mine safety.
