Two Christchurch teenagers will spend at least 17 years in jail for the murder of Shannon McComb.
Kevin Green and Pakanui Morice were sentenced at the High Court in Christchurch today.
They killed Mr McComb, 29, in early February this year, leaving his beaten body in a carpark off Kingslea St in Waltham.
The Crown lobbied hard for the 18-year-olds to be given a 17-year non-parole period, describing the attacks on Mr McComb as callous and brutal.
Prosecutor Deidre Orchard described the murder as a "thrill killing", saying it was carried out without the slightest human feeling.
She further described the pair as aimless, self-absorbed young men with no feelings for others.
Justice Venning ruled that despite their youth such a sentence was appropriate the circumstances.
