A large factory is on fire in South Auckland.
More than a dozen fire engines and 50 firefighters are at the factory on Great South Rd, Takanini, where the fire broke out about 5.30am, said a Fire and Emergency shift manager.
The fire is in the rear of the 100m by 20m building, believed to be the Windsor Doors Ltd factory, which makes garage doors.
Everyone had been evacuated safely, the spokesman said.
A St John spokeswoman said it had sent two four wheel drives and one ambulance to the scene at the request of the fire service.
It was at standby and had not treated any patients.
A witness said he was driving to work when he saw the fire.
"I realised that the building down behind Pak'nSave was raging in flames, then got to work and could smell the fumes and see smoke flying over the building," he said.
Another witness advised people nearby to keep their windows closed as "the smoke is so strong".
