Two Auckland brothers have been arrested and charged following an alleged stabbing at a nightclub in central Tauranga.
The men, aged 29 and 30, made brief court appearances in the District Court at Tauranga on Monday and are being held in custody.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said the pair faced a joint charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, after police were called to an incident in Tauranga's Hamilton Street about 2am on Sunday.
A man was taken to Tauranga Hospital where he remained in the Intensive Care Unit last night.
Police understood the man was injured while at the Bahama Hut nightclub.
Kiore Angel Ronaki, 29, and his older brother Rocky Ronaki, 30, are yet to enter pleas to the charge and remanded in custody by Judge Christopher Harding by consent.
Kiore Ronaki is due back in court today [Tuesday] for a possible bail application.
His brother's next court appearance will be on Friday also for a possible bail hearing.
