An investigation is under way to determine how a 10-tonne crane fell on to a Papamoa house under construction this morning.
McLeod Cranes director Scott McLeod said an outrigger to one of his cranes went through a soak hole on a construction site at Coast Boulevard about 8.30am.
"That is the simple explanation," he said.
"We have got to work through the process to determine what happened and why, but it is early days."
Mr McLeod said the only damage to the house was a broken truss in the entranceway.
"Luckily no one was injured or hurt and that is the main thing," he said.
"We take our health and safety very seriously."
An investigation was under way and a Duty Holder Review with WorkSafe to identify what happened and how, Mr McLeod said.
He said the site was "frozen" after he was notified of the incident and WorkSafe was notified immediately.
"This is a great opportunity to take every step to learn about what happened and to learn from it.
"It is a huge opportunity to learn and examine our processes."
McLeod Cranes was working with the roofing and building company.
A WorkSafe spokesperson said: "WorkSafe has been notified of this incident and we are making initial inquiries."
