A 70-year-old woman reported missing from an Otago walking track has been found.

The woman was reported missing just after 3pm today, and was believed to be on the Millennium Track near Taieri Mouth.

She was found near Brighton about 6.40pm and has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police thanked the public for their assistance.

North Otago's Millennium Track is described as a pleasant five to six-hour walk from Henley to Taieri Mouth and return.

It passes through native bush and follows the Taieri River as it heads to the sea.

The Department of Conservation warns that the track can be muddy and slippery in parts, with good footwear being essential.
