Police are appealing for information following a car fire in Wainuiomata this morning which left a man with serious injuries.

Officers were called to the fire in a car park on Coast Road, around 5.30am.

When they arrived, they found a man with serious head injuries and burns near a black Holden Cruze, which was well alight.

Police believed some of his injuries may not be related to the fire and were investigating.

The man was flown to Wellington hospital, where his condition is described as serious but stable, police said.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the Holden Cruze registration JSW312 in the Wellington area over the past 24 hours, particularly around Wainuiomata and Lower Hutt.
