Debate about the merits of adding fluoride to water has been ignited following Hamilton City Council's decision to remove fluoride from the city's water supply.

Spokeswoman for Fluoride Action Network New Zealand (FANNZ), Mary Byrne, has praised the special tribunal decision on Wednesday that voted 7 to 1 in favour of removing fluoride from the water by June 21.

However, health advocates say the decision to drop fluoride from its water supply will mean a costly decline in oral health from which the poor will suffer most.

Dr Jonathan Broadbent, Senior Lecturer in Preventive and Restorative Dentistry at the University of Otago, is one of many who believe the decision will be detrimental to public health in New Zealand.

Both will be joining us at midday today to answer your questions about fluoridation in New Zealand water.
