Hutt Valley police are seeking help from the public after a violent assault in Naenae.
A man was attacked by a group of four male offenders as he walked home from work on Wednesday night.
The man was walking behind the Naenae swimming pool when he was approached by the group and knocked unconscious.
The victim was left lying on the ground until he was discovered by a passer-by.
He was hospitalised with lacerations to his face.
Detective Constable Ryan Chinnock says the offenders are believed to be Maori, in the early 20s and wearing dark clothing.
He says anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Naenae area Wednesday night should contact police.
