Mt Eden mum Tracey Gooderham is used to hearing an American drawl around the house.
Her daughter Rebeckah, 10, likes to imitate characters from US shows such as Shake It Up and Glee.
Son Sam, 3, is also picking up an accent from his favourite computer game Dora the Explorer.
"I have even had arguments with Sam in the supermarket about how to pronounce things like tomatoes, as he thinks the American way is the proper way," said Tracey.
Rebeckah is so smitten with US programmes she signed up for a drama workshop during the school break to help write and star in a play set in Hollywood.
"She refers to nappies as diapers and calls a dairy a candy store," said Tracey.
"It's all good fun but I hope she'll eventually grow out of it."
