The death of a west Auckland truck driver last week has turned into a "real whodunnit" say police.
The body of Lee Ross McMurdo, 32, was found outside his home in Helensville, northwest of Auckland on Friday but police are not saying when they think he died or how he died.
"We have got a lot of work to do," inquiry head Detective Inspector Greg Cramer said.
A post mortem was done yesterday but Mr Cramer said it would be premature to speculate on how Mr McMurdo died.
Police launched the homicide inquiry because "it is clear another person was involved in his death".
"It is clearly a whodunnit investigation and we are taking our time."
Forensic specialists would be at the house in Helensville at least for the next two days.
Determining when Mr McMurdo died was a work in progress, he said.
"That is a big chunk of the puzzle we are missing at the moment is exactly what Mr McMurdo's movements have been since he was last seen on Tuesday."
Close family members, including his daughter, found his body, and his family was very distressed, said Mr Cramer.
