Waikato police are blaming wet weather for contributing to a fatal accident south of Hamilton today.
A 30-year-old woman was killed when she lost control of her vehicle and it crashed into a power pole on State Highway 3 at Rukuhia, about 8km south of Hamilton, about 10.30am.
Senior Sergeant Jeff Penno of the Hamilton police said initial indications on the cause of the crash were that the woman, who was the sole occupant of the southbound car, lost control on a bend, over-corrected and the vehicle then struck a power pole.
"The crash happened during a period of consistent rain, which is the first we've had in a while, so we're urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads at present."
