Liz Kelsh has worked on the famous faces of Jennifer Aniston, Rihanna and the Olsen twins, plus a star-studded roll call of others. She calls Aussie beauties Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett her "regulars". The Australian-based, self-trained artist has just launched her new book, Makeup. We got in touch to pick her brains about what's trending in beauty this summer.
Purple haze
Don't worry, we're not talking about freaky 80s-esque popping purple lids. It's about a soft lavender wash swept across the eye. "Blend, blend, blend. This is the buzz phrase," Liz says. And don't use more than three or four different colours.
Matte lips
A bright statement lip is a recurring favourite during warmer months. Liz says hot pink or coral is on trend, and keep it matte. A lip tip from Liz: "Prep your pout by exfoliating and moisturising before you apply any makeup. Tissue off excess moisture before you begin to add colour."
Luminous skin
The trick is nailing a face that appears dewy and hydrated without resembling an oil slick. Once you've applied a base, go easy on the illuminator, says Liz. Use it to highlight your cheek bones and the bridge of your nose. Apply powder only where you need it to ensure a fresh-faced look. Liz's top tip: "Spend a few minutes massaging moisturiser into your face before applying foundation. Your skin will glow and foundation last longer. That's the key for the long lazy beach sessions."
New in nails
The long, pointed gothic nail worn by Rihanna is picking up steam, says Liz. However, we prefer another popular style - a modern take on the French mani - a nude nail with a contrasting tip or moon. And feet always love a lick of bright polish as they poke through the sand
Long lashes
Liz says our love for lashes is even greater and they will become a main focus this season. Lash extensions are great, provided they are good quality, but they can be costly and high maintenance. Embrace falsies. They are getting easier to apply and can be worn in a subtle way every day.
