Kiwis travelling to and from Australia are urged to check-in early as workers strike across Australian international airports today.
Up to 10,000 employees of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, including the Australian Border Force would be striking from 12.01am to 11.50pm today, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
An Auckland Airport spokesperson said all flights departing Auckland to Australia have run as usual this morning.
He expected flights would depart on time as usual throughout today but advised passengers to check their airline's websites for updates.
Air New Zealand advised customers flying out of Australia to check-in earlier than usual and allow additional time after check-in to complete the border security process before departures as delays was likely.
House of Travel commercial director Brent Thomas recommended Kiwi travellers to keep a close eye on their airline's website and to stay in touch to be aware of delays.
"Should the strike go ahead we understand there are contingency plans in place to minimise flight disruptions. However, we do recommend Kiwis get to the airport a little earlier just in case there are hold-ups at Customs.
"Make sure you're familiar with your travel insurance policy and be sure to make arrangements at the end of your journey to allow for any late take-offs," he said.
The first Air New Zealand flight from Australia into Auckland airport is scheduled to arrive at 12.25pm (NZT) and is currently on time.
