A Waiheke holiday home with private beach access owned by a trust linked to businessman Mark Hotchin has sold for more than $14 million.

The 4.5ha property is set in a gully flowing down to Boatshed Bay, which boasts a 100m-long white sand beach.

It has been put on the market a number of times since 2012 and has sold for $14.25 million - above its July capital valuation of $13 million.

Mr Hotchin, the former Hanover director, did not own the beach-head outright, with the land and dwellings secured in a trust known as KA No3.

The property is one bay along from popular Palm Beach near Oneroa and is blocked from sight by cliffs and steep hillsides.

The northwest-facing land contains a two-level, five-bedroom home, a four-car garage and two-bedroom guest accommodation, plus four boat sheds, a boat ramp, spa pool and tennis court.

According to Quotable Value records, the stunning property was bought in August by Brent Sutton, Denise Sutton, and John Burns.

Husband and wife Brent and Denise Sutton, who could not be reached for comment, set up Sutton Group, a family-orientated Auckland business which supplied infant formulas, nutritional powders, and a variety of dairy powders.

Mr Burns is listed as a shareholder of Sutton Group Holdings, together with Mr and Mrs Sutton, on Companies Office records.

French food giant Danone entered an agreement earlier this year to buy Sutton Group and its joint-venture Gardians. The purchase price was not disclosed.
