DairyNZ workshops in the lower North Island in coming weeks will cover the basics of health and safety and provide information to help farmers adapt to new legislation.
The Safety Sorted workshops are taking place in Wairarapa on November 30, Southern Hawke's Bay on December 1 and Manawatu on December 2.
DairyNZ regional leader for Lower North Island, James Muwunganirwa, says focusing on health and safety can save time and money in the long term.
"Knowing how to keep your staff safe and reducing risk on-farm is an important process.
Accidents and injuries on-farm significantly affect the farm business in lost time and productivity," says James.
James says the Safety Sorted workshops will also help dairy farmers keep abreast of new health and safety legislation which took effect earlier this year.
"These events will help farmers understand what to do to get their farm up-to-speed under the new health and safety legislation. Everyone in the workplace has a responsibility to abide by these new rules, so I encourage all farmers to come along," says James.
"We'll steer you in the right direction and answer questions. You'll walk away knowing what is needed to make the farm safe and with all the right paperwork.
"The key to having compliance covered on your farm is working regularly on it to make sure your processes are relevant and up to date. These events are a great way to review systems and ensure health and safety is sorted on-farm."
