A woman has been arrested after allegedly chaining herself to a chair and gate while protesting mining in Karangahake Gorge.
Protest group Protect Karangahake said in a statement that a woman was arrested and charged with obstruction at a protest on Monday.
The woman allegedly chained herself to the gateon conservation land to block the mining vehicles from getting to the mine site.
Police confirmed the arrest and charge. A spokeswoman said there were about 12 protesters at the scene and no one else was arrested.
"Police attended at 8.50am following a call from members of the public and spent over an hour at the scene talking to protestors and explaining the situation to them," the spokeswoman said.
