A spelling mistake in the online diary of Kapiti based advertising agency Luvly has led to an unusual fundraising venture.
"We have been working for the last few years with the committee of the Mary Potter Hospice Strawberry Festival and Kapiti Coast Festival, and someone in our office had putthe word 'strawbeery' in our diary," Luvly owner Gavin Bradley said.
"It was one of those little light bulb moments."
He immediately rang Corey Taylor at Tuatara Brewery who had been instrumental in helping put together the annual home brewing competition at the Kapiti Coast Festival.
"I asked Corey if he could be talked into brewing a small batch of strawberry beer if I could find someone to pour it at their bar and give all of the proceeds to the hospice."
Blair Nicholl and Ricardo Reis, owners of Waimea Restaurant in Waikanae Beach and Waterfront Bar in Raumati Beach, were then approached to see if they would put the brew on tap in their two venues.
So, sometime in early October, Blair, Riccardo and Tuatara head brewer Sam White concocted 200 litres of blonde strawberry beer.
It will be available on tap at Waimea, Waikanae Beach, Waterfront Bar, Raumati Beach and from the Brewery Tasting Room in Sheffield St, Paraparaumu, from Wednesday evening, with all proceeds going to Mary Potter Hospice.
The Kapiti Coast Festival is on Saturday at Kapiti Primary School, Rimu Rd, Paraparaumu, from 9am to 3pm.
