Tararua residents will be able to learn more about the new route through the Manawatū Gorge at a series of information sessions run by the NZ Transport Agency.

The project team has completed geotechnical investigations along the proposed corridor of the replacement route, with 15 bore holes (the deepest being 50 metres) yielding 530 metres of core samples which have now been sent to the lab for testing.

The ground core samples will provide further understanding of the area and key information for the project as NZTA refine its knowledge as it continues the investigation of the proposed corridor.

Meanwhile, four sessions of four hours each, in Woodville, Dannevirke, Pahiatua and Palmerston North will provide an update on the gorge replacement route.

The Manawatū Gorge replacement route update will include information on the current preliminary design, what to expect during construction, a preliminary flyover animation, the project renaming and an opportunity for the community to provide feedback.

The NZTA is encouraging people to attend and ask questions of project team members. Construction is due to begin in 2020 and be completed in 2024.

People will also be able to have their say about proposed permanent changes to the speed limit on the Saddle Rd. The proposal is a permanent change to 80km/h to ensure an on-going safe roading environment.

There will also be three drop-in sessions in Ashhurst, with the NZTA discussing its proposed package of measures to mitigate traffic noise and safety issues.

If you would like to have your say but can't attend any of the sessions, please email manawatugorge@nzta.govt.nz for more information.

Gorge replacement meetings

These sessions will be: Wednesday, July 25, 4pm to 8pm, Woodville Supper Room; Thursday, July 26, 4pm to 8pm, Palmerston North Convention Centre; Tuesday, July 31, 4pm to 8pm, Dannevirke Sports Centre (Supper Room) and Wednesday, August 1, 4pm to 8pm, Pahīatua Town Hall (Supper Room).
